Hello From Camp!

Packing for Fall Seminar

 Permanent link

floor hockeyOther than the items that you would send your child to any sleepover with (clothes, toothbrush, etc.), we have compiled a list of things to consider when packing for Fall Seminar!  If you haven't registered yet, please click here.  Anyone who signs up after Sunday, September 18th will have to pay a $25 late fee so don't wait to register!

Keeping Warm: We are used to spending time at Galil when it's warm, but it can get chilly during the Fall once the sun goes down. Please pack warmly! It's best to send clothes that can be layered or an extra jacket.  Also, anything that has a name on it will be easier for us to return to you if it accidentally gets left behind at the end of the weekend.

Better Safe Than Sorry: We don't know yet what the weather will be like next weekend (let's all hope for sunshine!), but please send an umbrella, rain jacket, rain boots, and extra socks if the forecast predicts rain.  Even though Galil is a community that encourages sharing, we also recommend each family send any shower supplies their children will need for the weekend (shampoo, soap, towel).

Sleep Tight: Campers will sleep in bunk beds. They are responsible for their own bedding so please send your child with a sleeping bag and pillow.  Just like over the summer, campers are encouraged to bring stuffed animals, music players, or anything that helps them fall asleep.  Galil is not responsible for damage or loss to any items of high emotional or monetary value so please consider what you send with your children.

Healing the World: Our Bogrim (campers in 10th grade) are still accepting children's books to donate to Reach Out & Read, a nonprofit association affiliated with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). They are aiming to collect 250 books so please consider sending lightly used books for children ages 6 months to 5 years. Thank you!

Galil will also be building a sukkah this year.  If you have any old flat sheets you no longer want or use, please consider donating them to create the walls of our sukkah!  We are inviting our alumni and their families to join us for a potluck dinner under the stars on October 9th.

Little Extras: Don't forget to bring your registration form and check!

A Parent's Guide to Fall Seminar

 Permanent link

basketballYou've heard your children talking about it since camp ended: Fall Seminar!  With only eight more days until the return to Galil, we want to answer your questions about our semi-annual reunion weekend.

When should I be there on Friday?

Galil will be providing buses from the Kaiserman JCC, Adath Jeshrun in Elkins Park, and the Princeton Jewish Center.  All buses will be leaving at 5pm.  If you would prefer to provide your own transportation, please plan to arrive no earlier than 6:30pm at Galil.  Directions are available here.   Please note:  due to the recent flooding certain roads may still be closed coming from New Jersey.  Please look at maps, and have alternate routes planned.

How does pick-up on Sunday work?

The same transportation options described above will be available at the end of seminar.  If you are picking your children up, please arrive by 9:30am.  Buses will leave from Galil at 9:30am and return the campers to the same locations.  If, for any reason, campers will not be returning to their point of origin on the bus, parents must explain that in the "extra transportation information" section of the registration form.

How do I register?last shabbat of 2011 2

You can register online here.  Please note that if you register after Sunday, September 18th, you will be charged a $25 late fee. Don't forget to either send a check to Camp Galil at PO Box 1245, Newtown, PA 18940 or bring it with you on September 23rd.

Why is there a cost associated with seminar?

Obviously it costs money to provide the food and supplies that we need to run seminar.  In addition, the money we raise will go towards funding regular programming throughout the entire school year so we can have as many low-cost -- or free! -- events as possible.

What do the kids do at seminar?

Fall Seminar is a wonderful, relaxed, reunion weekend mixed with the traditions of the Galil Shabbat experience.  Campers have plenty of time to catch up with their friends from the summer but also participate in chugim (elective activities) including sports, nature, and arts & crafts, musicale and medurah (a bonfire where campers showcase their singing, musical, dancing, and comedic talents), and other staples of the Galil seder yom (schedule).  Other seminar highlights this year include rikkud (Israeli dancing), an activity by age group, an activity about Rosh Hashanah, and a fun, outdoor game.

Is there any financial assistance for seminar?

Absolutely!  At Galil we don't ever want money to be the reason that campers can't reconnect with their friends.  Please contact our Rashei Eizor (year-round programming directors) at eizor@campgalil.org to discuss opportunities for financial assistance.

Who runs seminar?

Our seminars and all year-round programming are planned and implemented by our Shaliach (Israeli Emissary) and Rashei Eizor (year-round programming directors).  Staff from previous summers return to camp to provide ample supervision and activities for the campers.  In addition, Galil's year-round professional staff are very involved in the process and in the weekend itself.

Who do I contact with additional questions?

You are always welcome to contact Galil's professional staff with additional questions about seminar.  Our phone numbers and e-mail addresses can be found here.

We look forward to seeing you at Galil on September 23rd!

Goodbye Ronit

goodbye ronitFor the past two years, the Galil community has been lucky to have Ronit Cohen join us as our Shlicha (Israel Emissary).  She has been an integral part of the Galil experience by sharing what she loves about Israel and forging relationships that will last a lifetime with our campers.  Any one who has been at Galil for the past two years will tell you that Ronit is a wonderful friend and an inspirational leader.

Today she will board a plane and return to Jerusalem.  Ronit, on behalf of the entire Galil community, we just want to say that we will miss you so much!  Thank you again for your hard work and bringing us closer to Israel every day.  We wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors and hope you'll visit us again soon!

Keep in touch!  Please send her a note to say nissiyah tovah (have a good trip) or todah rabah (thank you).
