7/11: A Magical Friday at Galil

Shabbat shalom, Galil families!

At Hitkansut Boker (morning assembly), we raised the flag, sang songs, and learned the Hebrew word of the day “matos” (airplane) in our morning skit. Full with a breakfast of eggs and blueberry pancakes, campers went off for Avodah (work time). The chanichimot (campers) meticulously cleaned the chadar (dining hall), pool, and bathrooms. Older campers searched for sticks and fallen trees to use for our Saturday night bonfire. This cleanly spirit carried on to Nikayon Tzrif (cabin cleaning), for which there performance would judged in the Quest for the Golden Broom. Stay tuned for the winning cabin!

Once the Tzrifs were cleaned, the Madatz (counselors-in-training) led discussions and fun activities for the Chanichimot. The Skufarimot & Amelimot had a blast at the pool!

Next came Shabbat Shira. Chanichimot learned new tunes like “The Ole Gesher Song” and sang them with great fervor.

After filling up on pizza for lunch, the Bogrimot ran Hyde Park, a public forum for Machaneh (camp) suggestions.

After a brief break, Chanichimot competed on the frisbee field and cooled down in the pool.

Next, it was time to get ready for Shabbat! Chanichimot dressed to impress before splitting up into Mishpachot (camp-Families) to reflect on their weeks.

Reflection and conversation complete, chanichimot reunited with their kvutzot (age-groups) to celebrate the week coming to a close.

Every week before we sit down for Shabbat dinner, one Kvutzah performs an Israeli dance, an English song, and a Hebrew song. The Skufarimot danced to Dancing Lasha Tumbai (the Sieben, sieben Song) and sang Hineini (by Chana Rothman) and Lucky (by Britney Spears).

Next, we sat by kvutzah (age group) for Shabbat dinner. Before traditional prayers, we sang Shabbat songs and danced The Hora around the chadar.

Following dinner, we sang songs one final time for the day before going to the oneg, a skit put on by a different Kvutzah each week. This week, it was the Tzofimot (13 year olds).

Finally, it was time for Rikud and the golden broom ceremony. And the cleanest cabin was: THE SHACK!

Laila Tov, Galil Families! Good night!
