7/9: Sporting Fun and Anti-Racism

Boker Tov, Machaneh Galil (Good Morning, Camp Galil)!

Today was laundry day! The sounds of Hikansut boker (morning assembly) were as loud and enthusiastic as always; songs like Phil Ochs’ Power and the Glory echoed from the toran (flagpole) to throughout machaneh (camp). The Ivrit Shimushit word of the day was Isha (Woman). For breakfast, the Chanichimot had eggs, vegetarian sausages, and tater tots.

After cleaning up around machaneh and in their tzrifim (cabins), chanichimot both learned and had fun during sa’adnaot (specialist workshops). Amelimot played spooky games with the Madatz, Skufarimot made delicious drinks with fruit and herbs from the Gan (garden), Tzofimot learned new Israeli dances, Bonimot, and Bogrimot helped prepare apple cobbler in the Mitbach (kitchen).

During our first Peulot (age-group learning activity), Chanichimot discussed social justice and racism in America.

After a lunch of Mac and Cheese, Chanichimot enjoyed various sports around Machaneh. Swimming, soccer, basketball, and rock climbing!

Next came the second Peula Shikvah (age-group activity). Amelimot discussed Kupah (their collective budget for treats and needs), Tzofimot planned their Oneg for Friday, and Bogrimot explored their artistic side to prepare for their coming Bozman (Bogrim-led nighttime activity).

After a passionate shira session and hikansut erev (nightime assembly), we made our way to a lovely chicken and vegetables dinner. Next, Chanichimot chose between Anti-Racism discussions ranging from Hip Hop and Empowerment to Racial Justice on College Campuses.

We finished the night with Rad Hayom, our festive end-of-day song.

Laila Tov, Galil Families!
