Galil Blog
Shabbat shalom, Galil families! After our busy first week of the session, we woke up on saturday ready to relax and spend time with our friends. We had a casual breakfast of donuts and cereal. Then the kids, some still in pajamas, strolled over to the pavilion where the bogrimot (ages 14-15) ran some fun activities such as reading, playing cards, and frisbee. Bogrim chuggim is one of the many activities our oldest campers get to run on Saturdays. This is a part of the leadership experience that Bogrimot gets to build upon, in addition to BoZman and BoCoup.
Then, we had more chuggim (electives), this time more educational. Chuggim ritzinim (serious electives) is a time where kids can choose to learn about something they’re passionate about. Then, for lunch each shichva (age group) had a picnic somewhere around camp. We had Falafel and pita with chips and salad. after lunch the madatz (CITs) held some relay races for the kids. The afternoon also had another frisbee game and free swim. Before dinner, we all gathered at the mini mo for our weekly musicale, where campers can sing and play instruments in front of the whole camp.
Then was dinner which was burrito bowls. As the sun set, we gathered by the mini mo again, this time for kumzits, where we sing classic folk songs to set the calm, reflective tone for chavdallah. At chavdallah, we all sit in a spiral while a few songs are performed. This is meant to be a time to exhale and reflect on the past week. Then, we sing the havdallah prayers and douse the candle, ending shabbat and beginning the new week. Then, we all went down to the medurah pit for our Saturday night bonfire. The bogrimot led us in some campfire songs and we had a comedy show where kids could make their friends laugh with funny acts and jokes. We finished off the night with glida (ice cream) we said shavua tov and goodnight and headed to bed after a great first shabbat.
