A Special Yom Ragil (Regular Day)

Boker Tov (Good Morning) Galil Families!

While the first day of school may be a source of stress for many, our first regular day at Galil was anything but. We began the day with Hitkansut Boker (Morning Assembly) where we raised the flagpole, sang songs, and proclaimed our presence with puns on the phrase “Kulam Po” (“We’re Here”). Finally, we learned the Hebrew word of the day in an Ivrit Shimushit skit.

During sadna’ot (workshops), Chanichimot split up by Kvutzah to learn from our specialists. Today’s specialist areas were Teva (nature), Mitbach (kitchen), Rikkud (camp dances), and Madatz (our counselors-in-training, experts in fun).

Next was our first Peulah Shikvah (Age Group Activity), often abbreviated to Pish. Amelimot and ChoSay cooled off in the pool. Older chanichimot held conversations about consent, kvutzah, and more.

After lunch, Chanichim participated in their first Chugim (interest groups) sessions. The Chugim of the session are “Creek”, “Brain Games”, “Dance”, “Beautifying Machaneh”, and “Random Acts of Kindness”.

Inclement weather moved sports to the (covered) pavillion, but that didn’t stop the Chanichimot from having a blast.

Sports was followed up with a inter-kvutzah dance competition. The verdict was a Habo-Tie!

After dinner—a delightful meal of roasted chicken and mixed vegetables—our final activity of the night was a cheese-themed Tochnit Erev (evening program). The Chanichimot began by tasting and making cheese with employees of the Big Cheese Consortium. Afterwards, they staged a water balloon–fueled rebellion.

And that was the day. Laila Tov, Galil Families!
