Fall Seminar 2025

Shalom, and welcome to the Camp Galil Blog—Fall Seminar edition!

Fall Seminar started off as it always does, with a machaneh-wide Shabbat dinner in the Chadar Ochel (dining hall). Afterwards, we did rikkudei am (folk-dances) in the Moadon, followed by watermelon and bedtime.

The next morning, we had Zman Sport (sport time), where chanichimot (campers) could either play basketball, frisbee, or my favorite, a Fall Seminar special, competitive leaf pile making! Chanichimot raced to make the biggest and tallest leaf pile, then competed to see who could have the biggest leaf-pile explosion after leaping in. After Zman Sport, we had pita, hummus, falafel and french fries for lunch.

After lunch, chanichimot could choose between a selection of chill chuggim (activities)—nature sketching, yoga, or journaling. This was followed by a machaneh-wide competitive Sukkot activity. The whole machaneh was split into four groups, then had to compete in a series of challenges to win points, with each challenge representing a part of sukkot. Groups had to toss a lemon back and forth 21 times without dropping it for “Etrog,” then race around obstacles while balancing a broomstick on their hand for “Lulav,” then race to finish three rice cakes the fastest for “Arava,” and finally, identity a series of spices using only their sense of smell for “Hadas.” Then, each group sent a representative to compete in Sukkot trivia, deciding the winner!

Afterwards, younger chanichimot and older chanichimot were split up. The youngest did an activity where they made a sukkah out of nature and talked about which celebrities or important people they would like to bring to their sukkah. Meanwhile, the older kids talked about October 7th, and how it would be remembered now that the hostages were home. Then the groups switched, and afterwards, we sang songs for Kumzits and headed to dinner.

After chicken nuggets and french fries for dinner, we headed back to the moadone for havdalah, then transitioned to the small fire pit by the Mini-Mo for a small medura (bonfire). The medura was briefly paused—for a fireworks show (thank you to Jeff, our groundskeeper)! Chanichimot then got to perform acts and songs in front of the medura, before we headed back to the chadar ochel for Glida (ice cream) and then bed time.

The next morning, we woke up and cleaned up machaneh to be just as clean as we had found it. Then, we had a picnic and said goodbye to our friends, before heading home.

We miss you all, and hope that you’re all having a great rest of your school year. We can’t wait to see you soon!
