Galil Blog
Shalom, Galil families!
Today was a nice change of pace for our chanichimot after getting back from tiyul, especially with the unusually cool weather providing some relief from the recent heat. From the ropes course to the kikar to the moadon, we did lots of physical activity all over machaneh.
The tzophimot got to hang on the ropes course for a few hours. They attacked the inclined log, balance beam, catwalk, zipline, and giant’s ladder. Each one of them left the course braver than when they arrived!
During saadnaot, some of the kids had a pretend wedding where they worked together to build a chuppah, make a bouquet, write vows, find rings, make seating arrangements, etc. They had to collaborate under strict time constraints to make sure the happy couple had an unforgettable wedding day!
For pish alef, one kvutzah learned about capitalism, while others planned for their upcoming special events, like aaliyah bet (bonimot), bocoup (bogrimot), and revo (madatz).
During chuggim, kids refined their soapstone skills, painted a mural, had a jam session, spun dreidels, foraged, and more.
The tzophimot, bonimot, and bogrimot had some competitive frisbee fun. They spent pish bet playing a tzo-bon vs bogrim frisbee game. It was riveting! Meanwhile, the amelimot made amelution (amelimot revolution) signs and the malachimot learned about antiracism.
A little rain couldn’t stop us from having zman sport! Kids participated in rikkud, basketball, soccer, running, ping pong, and baseball. There really was something for everyone.
Amelution happened during hitkansut erev- the amelimot performed their song called Amelemurs and showed off their cool posters. It was a big hit!
At shira, all the tzevet were dressed like hippies and everyone learned a new song. Then, everyone headed to dinner, which was “cheesesteaks” (they were vegan and therefore kosher), fries, and virgin citywides (root beer mixed with iced tea). If you couldn’t already tell from the cuisine, the tochnit erev (evening activity) was Philly themed! The title was Filthydelphia and it was centered around the Penn environmental protests in 1970, the year of the very first Earth day. Some of the activities were making protest instruments, cleaning the Schuylkill river, revamping the planters, tie dyeing bandanas, making earth day buttons, and hacking into the oil refinery. We finished the night off with some dirt pudding cups for dessert. See you tomorrow!
