Shalom, Galil Families!
As always, we began the day with Hitkansut Boker (Morning Assembly) where we raised the flagpole, sang songs, and learned the Hebrew word of the day in an Ivrit Shimushit skit. Today’s word was “yom” (day). After a breakfast of bagels, eggs, and assorted fruit, chanichimot cleaned around camp and tidied up their Tzrifim (cabins). Then, it was time for sa’adnaot (specialist workshops) and peulot (educational age-group activities).

Right before lunch, the schedule took a twist. Chanichimot (figuratively) buckled up in our very own plane and were transported to Israel. A feast of pita, shawarma, and fresh hummus quickly commenced.

After lunch and a brief break, chanichimot participated in a series of fun and educational events related to Israel. Chanichimot painted flags, competed in a Kibbutz-themed relay race, and learned about Israeli archaeology in a hands-on manner.

Next, we cooled off with a pool party! Popular Israeli tunes such as Golden Boy echoed across the pool

After a break for rugelach and showering, we changed gears to more serious discussions about Israel. There was options of which chuggim (elective) to go to. Younger chanichimot learned about Kibbutzim and popular Israeli music, while the older kids discussed October 7th and surrounding events with our Shlichim (Israeli counselors). There was a chug about the Hebrew language open to everyone.

Once these impactful conversations completed, we regrouped for a memorial ceremony. This tekes (ceremony) was led by our Shlichimot, Israeli Counselor delegation, who brought their personal perspectives in an appropriate and moving ceremony. We then moved on to a dinner of shakshuka and burekkas.

Finally, we ended the night with an outdoor Messibah (party) that included S’mores, a fashion show, and dancing. It based on a theme of various holidays in Israel: the fashion show/costumes for Purim, the s’mores for Lag B’Omer and the party/dancing to Israeli music for Yom Hatzmaut.
