Galil Blog

On Thursday we had a very special field trip! Each session at Camp Galil, the entire camp goes on a fun field trip, called the kupa trip. Kupa is a cooperative fund. Each kvutzah (age group) gets their own kupa and the kids decide what to spend the money on. Normally, the kids decide to spend their kupa on candy or special supplies for a fun program. For the kupa trip, the youth leaders decide on a fun destination that the entire camp would enjoy. For the first session we went to Dorney Park.

As the kids woke up on Thursday morning, they were given clues about where we would be going. The chanichimot (campers) very quickly figured it out! As they packed their bags with swimsuits, towels, sunscreen, and water bottles, excitement filled the air. Before leaving camp, the chanichimot got put into groups with tzevet (staff) based on what types of rides they wanted to do. From the biggest roller coasters for our oldest campers to the kids rides for our nitzinimot, our youngest campers, we had the entire park covered. After breakfast and picking out which sandwich they wanted for lunch later, we headed to the buses. The brief rain on the drive there didn’t spoil the fun. The skies cleared before we arrived at Dorney Park and the fun began! Tzevet and chanichimot split into their groups and set off for the rides. Some went to roller coasters and others spent the day in the water park. With multiple check ins and snack breaks throughout the afternoon, we kept the chanichimot fueled for the exciting day.
There were many other summer camps at Dorney Park this day, including several other Jewish camps! It was fun to watch some of our chanichimot chatting with kids from other camps while waiting in line for rides. As our day at Dorney came to an end, we loaded up the buses to head back to Machaneh Galil (Camp Galil). Everyone had a chance to shower and change before dinner, and we ended the night relaxing with a movie.
