Today is a special day, because IT’S MACCABIA! This morning Chanichimot gathered at the toren (flag pole) for hikansut boker (morning gathering) to raise the flag. This morning our ivrit shimushit (useful hebrew) skit taught us the word מַהֵר (maher) which means fast. And that’s the perfect way to describe the day!
Kids then went to breakfast which was pancakes and french toast to fuel them up for the day, then went to avodah (work groups). Next was Nikayon Tzrif (cabin cleaning time), and finally Maccabia. Maccabia is a sort of Jewish Olympics where Jewish athletes from all around the world compete. There’s also a summer program that goes around multiple camps to play different sports! This year is judo, baseball, and soccer.
To start off, the groups of the day are Melechimot (formerly AmChotrimot)/Sayarimot, Tzophimot/Bonimot, and Bogrimot/Bonimot as well. In judo, chanichimot learned how to fall backwards correctly and with minimal chance of injury, (on a mat of course). Chanichimot also learned how to throw someone on their backs and for some reason enjoyed being thrown themselves?! Even some tzevet were thrown as well!

Next was baseball, though it was more like wiffleball. All the rules of baseball were the same besides the fact that there were no home runs. So players in the outfield had to be prepared. Not surprisingly the Bogrimot (age 15) and Madatz (CITs) hit the farthest out of everyone.
Now moving onto soccer. Soccer was played normally and the tzophimot were definitely the most excited about playing. I even became a goalie and stopped a couple balls! After some meatballs and spaghetti lunch, we had one more block of sports time then the closing ceremony. Each chanichimot then got a medal and continued to the normal schedule. Chanichimot went to menucha (rest time), then to kibud (snack time), and then into chuggim (interest groups). After chuggim came pish bet (age group activity 2), then to dinner. At dinner our evening activity was announced. Ninjas (finally)! They’ve captured our Rosh (head of camp)!

The chanichimot had to do various tasks in the Moadon (hall) while split up per kvutza. First the kids created a sort of battle dance/cry. Second, the kids had to wrap their tzevet up with paper towels to hide them from the ninjas. Then finally the kids had to work on their team coordination by forming letters on the ground with just their bodies. Eventually the ninjas came back with David and the chanichimot almost drenched them with water to set him free.
After a furious battle, it was time for Camp Galil to head to sleep with Rad Hayom (our song to traditionally close out the night). Lilah Tov!
