Galil Blog

Today was packed with excitement and fun. In the morning, we welcomed our nitzinimot, our youngest campers. These 7 and 8 year olds are part of our Taste of Galil program that come to camp for 4 nights. The nitzinimot get to experience Galil for a short time before coming back for a longer session next summer.

Our madatzimot (16 and 17 year olds) and bogrimot (15 year olds), our oldest campers, also arrived back at camp this morning from an amazing mifgash (gathering) with their mosh kvutzot (peers). Yesterday we drove down to Machaneh Moshava in Maryland where the bogrimot met their age group and the madatzimot reconnected with friends made on MBE last summer.

Today we arrived back to find Machaneh Galil transformed for Yom Israel. We started off lunch with Hebrew tunes and schnitzel sandwiches, followed up by our weekly sports tournament. This week’s sport was soccer!

After some time to cool off in the pool, our chanichimot (campers) sat down to engage in more serious conversation surrounding Israel. They had the option to go to one of three sessions: a discussion on hugging and wrestling about the idea that to truly engage with a place you must be both an advocate for the place (hug) and be critical (wrestle), a session on the role of language in the diverse culture of Israel, or a deep dive on the secret beginnings of the peace process and Oslo Accords.

After an Israeli breakfast-for-dinner, the chanachimot had a misiba (party) where they could let loose, dance to Israeli beats, and eventually rest after their long day.
