Sunday! And Rookie Day!

Shalom, Galil families!

Today wasn’t just a normal day- it was rookie day, where prospective Galil families come and experience the camp magic with us! Starting off strong with hitkansut boker and ivrit shimushit, chanichimot got a good laugh before strolling to breakfast. This morning, we had blintzes and berry compote. Yum!

Next was avodah, where kids did valuable work with the goats, at the pool, and even building a new play structure in hyde park. Afterwards, the Bogrimot boarded the bus to head off to tiyul (hiking/camping trip) a day earlier than the rest of camp. During saadnaot, each kvutzah met with different specialists around machaneh and did some loosely tiyul-themed activities, like painting drawstring bags and creating their own trail mixes. Super useful for tomorrow!

For pish alef, each kvutzah spread out around camp for an educational activity. Today’s programming was similar across a couple of the groups: technology. Kids discussed how artificial intelligence changes the game, and identified the vast differences between using their own brains and using AI.

The rookies (prospective campers) joined us for lunch, which was pasta, garlic bread, and roasted zucchini. Then, they got a tour of machaneh, hung out with the goats, and did some tie-dyeing. A good time was had by all, even the youngest members of the group!

MBM couldn’t let the rookies have all the fun, so they made some tie dye creations too! Then, they received their chultzot (shirts of the movement), marking their transition into leadership. There were big smiles all around as they helped each other lace up the red strings.

Then it was chuggim, when everyone met with their interest groups, followed by pish bet, which was tiyul packing time! After a hearty snack of pretzels, it was zman sport. Kids had a blast playing frisbee, soccer, running, and swimming. Meanwhile, the bogrimot had an awesome time white water rafting.

We mixed things up during shira today; instead of teaching a song, we taught a rikud dance! Some kids liked it so much that they made it part of their kulam po during hitkansut erev. Once the flags had been raised, it was dinner time. Chanichimot entered the chadar to find a delicious looking dinner of chicken and broccoli, rice, and lima beans, plus some unusual looking drinks and decorations.

Tonight’s tochnit erev (evening activity) was called First Moon Party. Inspired by a silly video where a girl lies about getting her first period and her mom throws her an extravagant period-themed party. The highlight for many chanichimot was the piñata! Once they’d satisfied their chocolate cravings and danced the night away, they headed off to bed. Laila tov!
