Thunderous Tuesday

Good morning!! Today the chanichimot woke up to a bright and cloudy day where we then headed to the toren for hikansut boker, and raised the flags. After a bit of singing the tzevet put on a fun skit for ivrit shimushit, and the word of the day was mazgan (AC). After a couple of laughs we transitioned to breakfast which was eggs, oatmeal, and our usual cereal and yogurt bar (vegan option was french toast).

After breakfast the chanichimot went to avodah, where they picked up trash around camp, cleaned the bik (bathrooms), watered the gan (garden), and chopped up wood for medura (Bonfire) on friday. Then we went to nikayon tzrif (cleaning cabins), and then into sadnaot. During sadnaot today, different age groups hung out with the madatz (counselors in training), planted and picked greens at the gan, made art in the beit o (art house), visited the creek with scientists from the Tinicum Conservancy, or went on the ropes course!

Today a couple of brave sayarimot (age 12) went down the zipline!

After a thrilling sadnaot came pish alef where notably the Bogrim (age 15) learned about kvutza (groups) and how it relates to collective responsibility. Other chanichimot learned about kupah (shared fund), which every kvutza has and they choose what to spend it on. The bonim (age 14) chose to donate 50% of their kupah toward charity!

Following pish alef was lunch where we had hot dogs, latkes, and quinoa salad. The kids loved it and we transitioned into menuchah (rest time). Unfortunately during zman sports the chanichimot were rained out again and we transferred to the pavilion where kids played gaga and spikeball.

The raining persisted throughout the day so schiya chofshit (free swim) had to be canceled as well. After the rain cleared up the chanichimot grabbed kibud (snack) before heading to chuggim. One notable chuggim was the music and songwriting one, where two chanichimot brought a saxophone and a cello to camp! Following some jamming, we then transitioned into our second peulah of the day.

Afterwards we went to Shira (song session) where the older chanichimot taught the younger chanichimot a song called gush by gush (line by line) and eventually headed to hikansut erev to lower the flag pole. The chanichimot rushed to dinner where we had some crispy and creamy mac and cheese with our salad bar and quinoa salad on the side. Afterwards our evening activity was supposed to be ninja themed with the “ninjas” capturing David our rosh, but unfortunately we got rained out.

While the chanichimot were stuck inside all night, the tzevet made sure to still have fun with most kvutza playing board games like Settlers of Catan and euchre. Though so much rain is unfortunate, we still had a great time. Laila Tov!
