Galil Blog
Hello Galil Families,
Today, after three years, we were able to resume one of Galil’s most exciting and important traditions: our Tikkun Olam trip. Tikkun Olam is the Jewish value that calls us to repair the world. After learning about Food Justice yesterday, our chanichimot (campers) were ready to get out into the world and take some action!
After a short bus ride and some instruction from our friends at the Jewish Relief Agency, the chanichimot packed boxes of food and other household necessities in the JRA warehouse. With music and games in the assembly-line, our time volunteering was fun and fulfilling! The boxes that we packed will be delivered this weekend to low-income families and people dealing with food insecurity in the Philadelphia area.

After returning to machaneh (camp), we had an eventful dinner. The Game Master made an appearance and challenged the chanichimot to beat his world record in each of five (5!!) video-game-themed stations at tonight’s tochnit erev (evening activity). They tried their hand at a Pac-Man maze, a human claw machine, and even an Alien Invaders water fight! After one last Final Challenge, we said goodnight to our generous gamers from Camp Galil.

The Jewish Relief Agency (JRA) was founded in 2000 as a volunteer-led hunger-relief organization working to inspire volunteerism in Philadelphia, under the conviction that no member of our community should be hungry. Today, JRA continues to create positive change by bringing people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities together each month to fulfill its mission. Jewish Relief Agency serves over 6,800 diverse, low-income individuals across Greater Philadelphia. JRA also shared about food insecurity – adding to the learnings from yesterday’s Yom Tzedek.
