Tisha B’av

Erev Tov, (good evening), from Machaneh (camp) Galil. Today’s setting sun marked the beginning of Tisha B’av. Tisha B’av is one of the saddest days in the Jewish Calendar, commemorating the destruction of our ancient, sacred, Temples. For tonight’s Tochnit Erev (evening programming), we decided to stray from our usual fun programming in exchange for something more serious.

Using a similar style to Chugim Ritzinim (serious topics), an activity we run on Saturdays, we ran three different sichot (conversations) and allowed the chanichimot (campers) to choose which one interested them most.

The topics were:
-Memory, how do we relate to memories, where are they stored in our heads, and what is significant about remembering?
-Baseless Hatred, what is it, how do we respond to it, where does it come from, and how can we avoid participating in is?
-Rebuilding, what happens when something is broken, how do/can we work towards fixing and rebuilding?

After some long and productive conversations, we left the chugim and rejoined our kvutzot (age groups), for an opportunity to learn about the topics they didn’t go to, and talk about their thoughts.
We finished the night with the last Rad Hayom of the session, holding hands, passing the squeeze, and howling at the moon.

Shalom, Shalom……

Day is Done
Gone the sun
Stars are sparkling in the sky
Evening comes,to give rest
