Tiyul!

Welcome back Galil Families, but more importantly, welcome back to us from..the woods!!! While we were MIA from machaneh (camp), we were having many adventures, from witnessing nature’s gorgeous waterfalls to witnessing the more scary side of nature (…bears…), our chanachimot had a blast on Tiyul (camping)! We started out Monday morning with some last minute packing (“has anyone seen my sleeping bag, and I swear I just had my water bottle!?!?”), before boarding the yellow school buses all the way up to Hickory Run State Park.

Quickly after arriving, we enjoyed pastrami and sun butter & jelly sandwiches–two different sandwiches BTW (by the way), although now that I think about it… Alas, with normal sandwich combos properly digested, so began the four mile (younger camp) and eight mile (older camp, or any brave younger chanachimot) hike that had sights one could surely swoon over. Despite sharp inclines, some muddy patches, and a few too many roots, we conquered it all for the beautiful waterfall at the end. Then with freshly found appetites and tired limbs we made our way back to the campsite and enjoyed a delicious familiar dinner of chili and cornbread, thank you Tzevet Mitbach (kitchen staff)! All ready for bed with stomachs full, we climbed into our tents with plenty of stories to tell from the day. Our rest helped us  prepare for the fun of day two! And what best to do with a camp full of sweaty and grimy kids? A lake you say? Cause we thought the same!

After another bus ride, this one much shorter, we made our way to Jim Thorpe avoiding the forecasted rain and spending the day under the sun in the refreshing lake and cozy pavilion. After lots of swimming and running around, we filled our grumbling tummies with delicious chicken and corn before making our ways back to the buses (one final time), and heading back to what now seemed quite glamorous, Camp Galil. Finally back, everyone was able to take a much needed shower, get cozy, and head to the Moadon for a childhood classic movie, Teen Beach Movie. And to end the night? The Madatz (rising 12th graders) attempted a takeover, Revo style, to take the kids back in time, but we’ll see if this ends up a prank or not…but shhh!
