Tiyul with Galil

Shalom, Galil families!

For the past two days, the entire machaneh was on tiyul (hiking/camping trip)! We spent plenty of time bonding by kvutzah, making new friendships and strengthening our connection to nature.

Monday started with the usual hitkansut boker, ivrit shimushit, and aruchat boker. The chanichimot fueled up on French toast, eggs, and fruit before doing some last-minute packing and boarding the buses.

We hopped out at a sprawling peach orchard, where kids got to hang out with the resident dogs and cat. Then, they picked, ate, and played to their hearts’ content. After spending some time with the farm’s horse, cows, and chickens, we gobbled up some lunch and then got back on the buses.

Upon arrival at the campsite, everyone worked together to put up their tents, then started gathering and chopping firewood for their age group’s medurah later on. Kids also got games of frisbee and spikeball going to pass the time.

Then, they got their fires going and made some chili for dinner. Each kvutzah also got to spend some time with a group of astronomers who helped them see the sun through huge telescopes! Afterwards, chanichimot had a great time roasting marshmallows and making s’mores for dessert. To wind down, some people pulled out their guitars while others told scary stories.

The next day, we woke up bright and early and worked together to take down the tents. Everyone brushed their teeth, ate some breakfast, and packed their lunches. Tzevet mitbach whipped up a peach cobbler using the fresh peaches we’d picked. Magnificent!

Next was the hike around the Delaware Water Gap, where kids chomped on trail mix, observed nature, and played games. Some of the classics are emsa, I spy, and the clip game. We stopped at Crater Lake for a scenic swim and lunch, then headed home.

Back at machaneh, we got nice and clean, ate dinner, wished Gabe a happy birthday, and watched Hercules in our pjs. Laila tov!
