Waterful Wednesday!

This morning Galil woke up to the summer’s first big heatwave. Thankfully it was also the summer’s first laundry day today! Chanichimot gathered at the toren (flag pole) for hitkansut boker (morning gathering) to raise the flag. Our ivrit shimushit (useful hebrew) skit taught our chanichimot (campers) the word כל, which is the hebrew word for all! Then we headed to breakfast for waffles, eggs, fruit and cereal! Chanichimot (campers) were also given gatorades and electrolyte packets today in order to encourage everyone to drink water and stay hydrated in the heat!

After breakfast we headed into our normal avodah (work) groups and then into nikayon tzrif (cabin cleaning). Chanichimot soon after headed into pish alef (first age group activity). Some of our young chanichimot went to the pool, while some of our older chanichimot like the bogrimot (age 14) talked about “hugging and wrestling with Israel,” where they looked at different ways of connecting to Israel. We then headed to lunch for grilled cheese and tomato soup! Our lovely chef Erica also cut up orange slices for a refreshing add on to lunch!

After lunch we had some free time and chanichimot changed into their bathing suits for water sports! We played a game of frisbee, set up a slip-n-slide, and took out the hose to fill up water balloons! We moved the water party into the pool for free swim and had a full camp pool party! We finished the pool party with a snack– cheeze-its!

After kibud (snack) and some shower time, chanichimot went to their chuggim (clubs). Some of our chuggim kept up the water theme and brought out the hose and more water balloons to keep cool and have fun, while other chuggim spent time in the air conditioned moadon and did a guided meditation. After chuggim we went into pish bet (second age group activity), where many kvutzot (age groups) continued spending time in the moadon. Some played cards and read, while others played their instruments with each other!

After pish bet it rained outside, fully completing our water-filled day, and led us to an indoor hitkansut erev (evening gathering) before dinner. For dinner we had a barbeque-esque meal with barbeque chicken and vegan chicken cutlets, french fries and tons of watermelon! We brought back the gatorade for extra hydration and sang some songs before heading to some free time. We ended the day watching the USA vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina world cup game and watched the U.S. win 2-0! We also had cookies in the chadar ochel (dining hall) for chanichimot to decorate. We’re looking forward to more water sports and hydration tomorrow!
