Galil Blog
We woke up this morning to find that the kikar (field) was cloaked in a layer of fog. It was laundry day, so we carried our laundry bags to the toren (flagpole) for hitkansut boker. After an enthusiastic hitkansut, we crowded around the Beit Omanut to watch Ivrit Shimushit (the Hebrew skit of the day). Today’s word was kiseh, or chair, and we practiced saying the word by singing a song.
After Ivrit Shimushit, we moseyed on over to breakfast. The smell of eggs, toast, and vegetarian sausage patties wafted through the air as we fueled up for our big day. Next, we split into our avodah groups and cleaned camp. During avodah, the people that work in the gan (garden) got to hang out with the sheep and feed them grass. After avodah came nikayon tzrif. Everyone went back to their tzrifim (cabins) to tidy up. Then, we went with our kvutzot (age groups) to sadnaot. The Mazalimot had a peulah with the Solelimot (post MBE-aged campers) and the Bonimot went to the Beit Omanut for some crafting.
After sadnaot, each kvutzah (age group) had a peulah. All of the campers discussed sustainability and neurodiversity as the educational themes for the day. The Solelimot had a peulah about consent and practiced setting boundaries with each other. All of the learning and playing made us hungry, so we made our way back to the chadar for lunch.Today’s lunch was a crowd-pleaser. We had scrumptious buttery grilled cheeses and steaming bowls of tomato soup. A lot of people think it’s silly to have a hot bowl of tomato soup on a hot summer day, but it really hits the spot at camp. We ended lunch with some spirited singing and silliness. Then we needed some time to digest so we went back to our tzrifim (cabins) for menucha (rest time).
After menucha, we played sports. The rock wall and pool were very popular choices. We also recently installed a tennis net in the pavilion, which has become all the rage. A Mandy PP (or mandatory pool party) was next up on our schedule. Everyone headed to the pool to cool off and splash around. Then, we had some shower time and ate pretzels for kibud (snack).
After kibud, we went to chuggim (electives). Meshuga Masterpiece did some wacky experimental art, Yoga and Relaxation did yoga, and Board Games in the Refet played… (you guessed it) … board games in the chadar.
During chuggim, a cozy rainstorm passed over us. But then we went to Pish Bet (second age group activity) to spend some quality time by kvutzah. After Pish Bet, we gathered at the toren (flagpole) for Shira (singing). A beloved member of our oldest age group led a very special Shira today. Then, we lowered the flags, sang some songs, and headed to dinner. Dinner was fried rice with veggies, chicken, and tofu. It was delicious!
At dinner, something crazy happened! It was revealed that the tochnit erev (evening activity) for the night was Zap, a classic Galil game where chanichimot (campers) try to sneak across camp and win eternal glory. There was an attempted assassination of our Rosh David (he was okay), so we all had to pretend to be secret service agents and sneak our way to the pavilion. After Zap, we sang Rad HaYom (our evening lullaby) and went to bed. What an exciting day!
